Hi everyone, I'm currently waiting for a colostomy due to rectocele and pelvic floor descent. I suffer from terrible pain and tenesmus. Just wondering if anyone else has had a colostomy due to this and if the colostomy helped.

G-Day Bethie,

I have an ileostomy as opposed to a colostomy, but you will have less pain after your operation. It will take time. Hang in there, and we are all behind you. Sending good vibes to help.

For those of you still looking for love after your ostomy... don't give up! One day, when you least expect it, there will be a message in your inbox... always remember that when you're not looking, life has a brilliant way of surprising you with someone in your life you have so much in common with, and either you make a great new friend or you will find the person you were always looking for! I, for one, thank God I found this website... I was in a low place when I first started, and now I've never been happier! ~Traci~

Hello Bethie.
A rectal prolapse was the least straw in a long line of adversities, which led me to have a colostomy.

Everyone's experiences will be different but the colostomy helped me enormously to relieve rectal pain. My logic for this was that most of the pain was caused by pressure of faeces in the rectal area, where there are likely to be hernias (which are often overlooked or misdiagnosed).  The colostomy diverted the faeces and so that pressure in the anus was alleviated for many years.
More recently, some similar pain has recurred, and I am due to have endoscopies of the rectal stump and the stoma next month to try to determine the cause.
As for tenesmus, this is said to be 'normal' after stoma surgery but tends to decrease given time.
I do hope everything works out for you.
Best wishes

Bill
