Last week I asked for tips and experience for having a colonoscopy through my stoma. I want to thank those who responded. The prep was terrible as usual, but I wanted to share with you that the outcome was good and it looks like I will be able to be reversed and arthroscopicly. Bringing my own set up to replace the one they took off was the best tip! Thanks you all.

On another question, I am planning to fly for the first time since I had my colostomy (just since July). What should I know or expect? Are there any-thing’s I should do or be aware of for flying the first time? It is only an hour flight.

Congratulations on a successful colonoscopy!

You should declare your colostomy to the TSA screener. They are supposed to have you rub your hand over the bag outside your clothing. They will test your hands for explosives residues.

Enjoy your trip!

Meetanostomate has been a great avenue and resource to meet new people with the same challenges, fall in love, fall out of love but most of all fall out of loneliness that comes with self-doubt…

For flying, take wet wipes and a small bottle of water in case you need to empty during the flight. With a colostomy, you don’t really need to be as paranoid about having output during flight and avoid eating/drinking hours before flight. Empty before boarding if you have to and then enjoy your trip. If you have to empty, wet wipes and the bottle of water makes it easy in those tiny bathrooms.

Congrats on the successful colonoscopy. I know you are glad that is behind you.

As far as flying, I would eat very little prior to your flight. A seat close to the bathroom might ease concerns about emptying your bag.

Since it’s only an hour flight, I wouldn’t worry too much.

TSA will most likely have you step aside as your bag will show up on the scanner. It only takes a minute and is no big deal.

Enjoy your trip!!
