Hello, I have stage 4 colon cancer since 6/24 and have to deal with an ileostomy and a stoma named George. He is very active, and I do have leakage sometimes at night. I am thinking about the skin barriers. Anyone have problems like this and suggestions?
ONE THING THAT I’VE LEARNED ON THIS SITE is how many different bodily malfunctions can lead to a person having to have ostomy surgery. In my own case, it was ulcerative colitis which, after a painful and lengthy preliminary engagement, put me in the hospital in November, 1963. I was in sorry shape, hurting badly, and confined in what was called a semi-private room in upstate New York. Tel ...
My hobbies are racing motorcycles, skydiving, bungee jumping, and flying. I can drive anything from an 18-wheeler to a unicycle and work on computers when inside.
Never let an ostomy stop you from doing anything you want to do.
A convex ostomy skin barrier can help prevent output leakage and skin issues. Unfortunately, some misconceptions about convexity may keep people with ostomies from using it.
The weeks ago I started going back to work.
So, 5-6 weeks of healing and now 3 weeks in the books back at the job, that's 9 weeks since my urostomy.
The nice thing was HR asked if I had any "needs" or requests for "reasonable accommodations." I filled out the ADA form and just asked to be allowed to wear coveralls as the daily work uniform and that I wanted "light duty" / no heavy lifting for ...
I'm curious — has anyone here been pregnant with a stoma? How did it go? Was it extra challenging, or just another one of those “figure it out as you go” adventures?
My main worries are the usual suspects: keeping up the energy, the growing belly changing how the appliance fits (because my stoma already has a mind of its own!), and the whole idea of being pregnant after being sick for ...
For many years, I was either unable to travel or suffered with Crohn's while traveling. Two weeks ago, I took my first vacation with an ostomy and was able to enjoy my time away. Not only a vacation, but a vacation at Disney/Universal with a ton of walking, rides, and all kinds of food. I did have some anxiety to start with, but it turned out to be misplaced. It was such a great feeling to be ...
Hello all
Although my colostomy surgery was in August, I have only been home and managing it on my own for the past month. This is my first post, but I've already been finding the answers I've so desperately needed from your responses to other newbies. My apologies for taking so long to say hello and to thank you. I am so blessed and grateful to have found you, since without you I would still ...

In a few weeks, I'll be sending my car back to its origin up north since the lease is ending, and I'm thinking of ways to transport around town. It's pretty small, so I could walk to all the places I'd really need, but it might be nice to have a bicycle or moped to go a little further out some days. Has anyone ridden either one 1.5-2 months post-surgery? Was it okay on your tummy?
Also, today ...
Hmm...I've been a member here of this wonderful community for some time now and it's been so wonderful to read about the journey of others who are finding their way. I've had my urostomy since I was eight years of age and I had a diverted bladder before that. The latter didn't quite work and the urostomy was created. Growing up with it and the challenges that were presented over the years of m ...
