Hi there:

I had a functioning j-pouch for 15 years with no problem until a couple of months ago. My small intestine was strangulated which required me to undergo emergency surgery in which two feet of dead bowel was removed due to my small intestine twisting up. As a result I have an illestomy again but I hope it can be taken down and be reconnected to my j-pouch again.

Hopefully this gives you some insight on my experience with the reversal surgery. Are you planning to have this surgery?

Short review. MAOM has helped me feel better by helping others it made me feel useful, worthy, important. It took my depression away. The more you use the site the more you get out of it.

sorry to say mine didn't "take" and I was more miserable than when it was just IBD.  after a year and a half I had it taken down - the bleeding caused me to be anemic and the urgency was the worst (stuck in rush hour traffic coming home from work)

I have since had more dead bowel removed a total of 11 surgeries just related to bowel stuff. AND I got Hep C from a blood transfusion.

I had to try it, of course I wanted to be rid of the bag, but it didn't work for me. I am thinking there have been improvements in the techniques since the early 90's, so go for it!

warm regards

Judi

My niece had excellent luck with hers - it has been about 8 years.  The less surgeries the better so hopefully it will work and keep you going for many years.
