Hi, anyone ever have stenosis, requiring another surgery?  Just curious.

Hello Cat.

As I understand it, a 'stenosis' is the same as a 'stricture', which is an abnormal narrowing of a tube (usually blood vessels). By this definition, I have a narrowing of the colon right at the sight of the stoma, to such an exent that I thought I might have to go back for surgery. However, I have found that I can train the muscles to relax by pushing a dilator (or my finger) into the stoma and keeping it there until the muscles let go of their grip and the hole stays open for a while. I can keep it open by using a stoma plug but as soon as that is removed the problem returns. I am reluctant to ask for a surgical solution until my own efforts are no longer effective. However, I'm glad you asked the question, as it will be interesting to hear from anyone who has opted to have surgery for this condition.

Best wishes

Bill

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I have to admit this website does seem very friendly and helpful.

I will definitely log into chat as soon as I can and see who is around. Looking forward to meeting some like-minded people! :)

Hi, just thought I'd give an update. Had Ct scan after drinking barium solution (comes in Mochachino flavor now...yum....kidding🤤). Results showed stricture/stenosis....very apparent! Surgery scheduled end of November. I also have a very flat stoma so surgery will hopefully correct both issues. This surgery is obviously nothing like the original, so may even go home same day. Don't mind staying the night though either....just in case 😉

Stenosis? Never heard the term before.

Stricture? Yes. Where is yours located?

People with IBD get strictures.

Mine is in my throat.

Hourglass design high above the clavicle.

Imagine a garden hose tapering down to a toothpick, then opening up again.

Choke on food much? 3 mm diameter. No surgery. Dealing with it for years.

Likely from Crohn's disease.
