Hi,
I was hoping to get some feeback from anyone who might have had bariatric surgery post colectomy. I am having vertical sleeve gastrectomy on Jan 8th at the request of my colorectal surgeon. He thinks it will aid in the success of a reversal. Any advice appreciated!
Thanks!

Hello mtngirl. Thank you for your post as I was ignorant about vertical sleeve gastrectomy. However, having googled it and been educated, it looks like a brilliant concept and I certainly think that your surgeon is right to suggest that it could aid the success of a reversal.

Very best wishes and please let us know how you get on.

I am scheduled for my reversal on 12/4. All my pre-admin stuff is completed and my GI signed off on the clearance letter this morning. I am super excited and looking forward to not having a bag. I just hope all goes well and heals well so I don't wake up with a temp bag which will lead to yet another surgery.

I have learned a lot from this website and will continue to be on here even after surgery. To all the ostomates out there, keep your heads up and keep pressing forward. We all have good and bad days. Best of luck to you all.

I will be sure to post my progress after surgery. I'm praying for you all.

I just had gastric sleeve surgery 5 days ago. This was step 1 to lose enough weight so I can have reversal surgery. So far, so good. The doctor said to consider reversal surgery if I can keep the weight off for 12 months.

Hello. My doctor told me the same thing, so I had my sleeve surgery on Aug 13, 2025. As far as my colostomy goes, I worry about blockage due to not drinking enough water. Every day, I force myself to eat something. Food is no longer pleasurable. One or maybe two tablespoons of something causes a knot-like feeling in my stomach, and that feeling is what keeps me from enjoying eating. I have lost 37 pounds in 10 weeks. Was it worth it? Yes, it was, and I hope my eating habits get better and I can enjoy eating once more someday.
