Just wondering how long you wait before having the stoma shortened!

Hey Honestabe, sorry I can't offer an answer. My first stoma was in a loop colostomy. It prolapsed and was replaced when they did the end colostomy after about 6 months. Hopefully, your surgeon is a colorectal specialist. He/she would advise you correctly.

Please let us know how you make out.

Respectfully,

Mike

Good Evening Bob and All,

I checked my email and saw new postings. That's when I usually visit the site. I've recently met a few others who have developed UC and have made contact with them. I've directed them to this site. I also use the site to look up concerns they or I have. This site has been unusually helpful to me. I have seen questions and concerns of others posted. After I scroll down and see similar comments that I would make, I don't comment. As for social media interest, I have a Facebook account (due to work). As of this date, I have one Facebook Friend (and don't even know how that happened). I find the content here more relevant to my life. Then again, I'm old school. If I want to see how a friend is doing I just make a call.

Stay Safe and Sane all. Back to the hockey game,

SharkFan

Very helpful

Hello honstabe. I like what Mike says: There is no right or wrong answers to your question, only opinions and perspectives. My stoma prolapsed a couple of weeks ago as a result of something I was doing. It was a bit disconcerting at first, but I quickly saw some positives in the situation and was able to utilise the extra length to my advantage. The other thing I noticed was that by using a specifically home made hernia belt, I was able to push it back in for the period when it did not suit me to have it out.  Of course, this would not be possible without irrigating and having long periods without output, so it would not suit everybody.  Ultimately, the decision on these things must lie with the person concerned. Even the surgeon is only giving advice.

Keep in touch.

Best wishes

Tks for reply! Had to go to bigger bag! My stoma is usually not active until around 1pm! Up till then, I can use the support belt to hold it in! Has a flap on the belt! Don’t irrigate! Maybe should start! Thought colon that’s 3” in diameter was unusual! No, common size! Guess I will live with it a while longer! Tks
