Eakin Barrier Ring - Difficulty removing adhesive?

This topic is about someone who tried using an Eakin Slim barrier ring for their ostomy appliance and encountered some issues. After just two nights, the pouch failed, and when they removed it, a thick layer of adhesive was left around the stoma. This was difficult to remove and caused irritation to the skin. The person is curious if this is a common issue with Eakin rings or if it might be because the rings they used were about a year old.

Here are some helpful insights and advice:

- It is normal for Eakin seals to leave some residue, especially if the appliance has been worn for a short period, like a day or less.
- To make removal easier:
1. Hold an adhesive-remover wipe or a pad soaked with adhesive remover spray on the sticky area for about a minute before wiping it off.
2. You can also use a damp, warm face cloth instead of adhesive remover. Water is soothing and avoids any stinging sensation.
- Adhesive remover wipes usually remove most of the residue. Any small amount left can be covered by the new ring.
- Taking a bath or shower right after removing the appliance can help loosen and wash away any remaining adhesive.
- Some people choose to stop using Eakin rings because of the persistent residue they leave behind.
- Products that might help include:
1. Adapt Medical Adhesive Spray by Hollister for securing the baseplate.
2. Hollister Adhesive Remover Spray for gentle removal.
3. A general adhesive spray in a can, recommended by another user as effective.
