Seeking advice for skin irritations with retracted innie stoma

This topic is about a person who has recently had a colostomy and is experiencing challenges with a deeply retracted stoma. The stoma is so recessed that it looks like a small bump between the folds of their abdominal skin. Despite trying various products like deep convex wafers, barrier rings, and protection sheets, they are struggling with stool leakage, which is causing severe skin irritation, sores, and blisters. They are seeking advice on how to stop the leakage and heal their skin.

Here are some helpful suggestions:

1. Adjust the frequency of changing your ostomy appliance based on your skin's condition rather than sticking to a fixed schedule. Many people find that changing more often than twice a week helps keep the area clean and dry.

2. Experiment with different products. Switching from one brand to another, such as from Coloplast to Hollister two-piece systems, has been beneficial for some people.

3. Consider trying the Hollister Adapt CeraRing Convex Barrier Ring, product #89520, which is known for being very sticky and effective at sealing around a retracted stoma.

4. Use a combination of deep convexity and a highly adhesive barrier ring to fill the dip around the stoma and prevent leaks from getting underneath.

5. Apply stoma powder to any raw areas on your skin, then seal it with the ring or wafer to help promote healing.

6. Use Brava Skin Barrier Wipes from Coloplast to add an extra protective layer between your skin and any output.

7. If you continue to experience leaks and skin issues despite trying different products and changing more frequently, it might be worth consulting your surgeon about the possibility of a stoma revision.
