Coping with Anxiety Before a Concert with Health Challenges

This topic is about someone who is preparing to attend a concert while managing several health conditions, including cyclical vomiting syndrome (CVS), twin ostomies, chronic kidney disease stage 3a, and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome. The person is excited but also anxious about the event and is seeking advice on how to manage their medical needs and anxiety. Here are some helpful tips and insights:

1. Hydration & Kidney Protection
- Always carry a water bottle and sip frequently to help protect your kidneys and stay hydrated, especially important with CKD 3a.
- Know the location of the nearest hospital to the concert venue in case you need IV hydration due to prolonged vomiting.

2. Preparing for the Event
- Build your confidence by gradually increasing the length and complexity of your outings. Start with short trips and slowly work up to conditions similar to the concert.
- Wear a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard so that venue staff can discreetly offer assistance if needed.

3. Backup & Exit Strategy
- Attend the concert with a trusted person, like your son, and agree on a signal or code word to use if you need to leave quickly or require help.
- Before the concert, familiarize yourself with the venue's layout, including quick exit routes, restrooms, and first-aid stations.

4. Mind-set & Stress Reduction
- Practice positive visualization and self-talk, focusing on what can go right rather than worrying about potential problems.
- Remind yourself that you have prepared well and have support in place, allowing you to enjoy the concert experience.
