Urostomy Stoma Bleeding for 24 Hours: Need Advice

This topic is about dealing with a urostomy stoma that has been bleeding intermittently for almost 24 hours. The bleeding is coming from the base of the stoma, not the urinary opening, and it keeps filling the pouch. Attempts to stop the bleeding with direct pressure and ice cubes have only been temporarily effective. Additionally, a raised bump has been noticed on the stoma, and the bleeding is becoming harder to control.

Here are some helpful pieces of advice and insights:

1. Seek immediate medical attention. Contact a stoma nurse or doctor right away, or head straight to the emergency room. If necessary, call an ambulance to avoid driving, especially if there's a risk of fainting.

2. Bring your ostomy supplies to the hospital, as the medical staff will likely need to remove and replace your current appliance.
