Hollister Velcro Pouch - Closure Issues After Usage?

This topic is about a user experiencing issues with the Velcro closure on Hollister New Image drainable pouches. The Velcro closure, which is supposed to keep the pouch sealed, has been losing its grip after just two to three days of use. This has led the user to reinforce the closure with tape multiple times a day. Despite contacting Hollister and receiving replacement products, the problem persists. The user is reaching out to see if others have experienced similar issues and encourages them to contact Hollister as well.

Here are some insights and advice shared by others:

1. Many users find that the Velcro grip naturally weakens after a few days of use. Some choose to switch bags more frequently or use disposable closed-end pouches instead.

2. To improve the seal:
- Make sure to flatten the tail completely and expel any air pockets.
- Align the Velcro strips edge-to-edge and press firmly or rub along the seam.
- Repeat this process after each emptying. Some users add a few drops of Hollister Adapt Lubricating Deodorant before sealing.

3. For extra security:
- Use a ½-inch office binder clip over the folded tail, optionally cushioned with folded toilet paper.
- Thin strips of Scotch tape across the fold can also help.

4. Consider product alternatives:
- Closed-end pouches from Hollister or other brands eliminate the need for resealing and are typically used 1–2 times per day.
- Coloplast and ConvaTec are mentioned as reliable alternatives if considering a brand change.

5. Some users have noted that the Hollister model #8531, labeled as "New & Improved," has a tighter Velcro closure, but they have also noticed increased odor and thinner pouch material.

6. A few members have reported similar issues with leaking or wet tails with recent Hollister stock, suspecting changes in the Velcro strip and pouch material. They are considering switching suppliers or brands.
