Travel Tip - Baby oil for easy bathroom trips

This topic is about using baby oil as a lubricant inside an ostomy pouch to make bathroom breaks quicker and cleaner, especially when traveling. Here are some helpful tips and insights shared by others:

1. Keep a TSA-approved 3 oz travel bottle of baby oil in a small zip-lock bag. Before leaving home, drip some oil into your ostomy pouch. This helps the output slide out smoothly, making it easier and faster to empty, which is particularly useful on airplanes or in public restrooms with poor-quality toilet paper.

2. Pre-roll sheets of toilet paper so they are ready to use. This can further speed up the process when you need to empty your pouch.

3. The baby oil is applied directly inside the pouch. Users have not noticed any material breakdown at the tail and find it much cheaper than commercial deodorant or lubricant products.

4. A 3 oz bottle of baby oil complies with airline liquid limits and is more affordable than specialty ostomy lubricants or deodorizers.

5. Some travelers have found this tip helpful, especially since thin, narrow public restroom toilet paper can make cleaning the pouch end difficult. A lubricant can be a welcome aid.

6. One user experienced the tail seam degrading with repeated use of baby oil and switched to a few drops of olive oil instead. They reported good results without any pouch damage.

7. You can apply the oil either on the exterior tail to aid cleaning or as a few drops inside the pouch to reduce sticking. Both methods work, but it's important to monitor your specific pouch material for any signs of wear.

8. Both baby oil and olive oil are low-cost, widely available alternatives to branded ostomy deodorant/lubricants. Choose the one that is compatible with your pouch material.
