Leakage Control Tips for Traveling

Traveling with an ostomy can sometimes be a bit challenging, but with a few handy tips, you can make the journey smoother and more comfortable. Here’s a simple method to help manage leakage while you're on the go, whether you're just running errands or embarking on a longer adventure.

- One practical tip is to create a "pad sandwich" by folding two mini sanitary pads sticky-sides together, with the absorbent sides facing out. Place this inside a clean ostomy pouch. This setup helps absorb output as it exits the stoma, allowing you to go longer before needing to empty the pouch. When you do empty it, simply replace the pads with fresh ones to maintain protection.

- Many people have found this pad-inside-pouch method to be effective. Additionally, some have had success by placing a pad on the outside of the pouch over the stoma plug. The gentle pressure from the pad can help prevent leaks altogether.

- Using an ostomy belt can provide extra security. It helps keep a two-piece appliance securely in place, reducing the chances of unexpected separation or leakage.
