How to Prevent Your Drainage Bag from Twisting Overnight?

This topic is about finding a solution to prevent the tubing of an overnight drainage bag from twisting shut during sleep. This issue can cause urine to back up and potentially leak, which is understandably frustrating. Here are some practical suggestions to help keep the tubing open and functioning properly:

1. The problem often arises from using very stiff urostomy drainage tubing. A helpful solution is to splice in a short, flexible section of latex hose, approximately 1 foot (30 cm) in length.

2. To do this, cut the existing tubing near the top, close to where it connects to the bedside or overnight bag.

3. Insert the latex segment between the cut ends, effectively splicing it in, and then reconnect it to the bag.

4. The more flexible latex section allows the tubing to bend and flex as you move during the night, which helps prevent kinks that could otherwise block the flow.
