Swimming with a Stoma - Tips & Product Recs

Swimming with a stoma can be a bit tricky, especially if you're worried about your appliance staying secure in the water. If you love swimming but find that your appliance tends to loosen or fall off when wet, you're not alone. Here are some tips and insights from others who have faced similar challenges:

1. Many people with ostomies find that they can swim for up to an hour without any special precautions. Interestingly, sweat often causes more issues with appliance security than water does.

2. Consider using Coloplast barrier strips. These can be placed around the wafer to provide extra waterproofing. Some people also use ordinary waterproof tape as a substitute.

3. Safe Seal, which might also be known as Sure Seal, is often described as very reliable for water activities. It's worth looking into if you're planning to spend a lot of time in the water.

4. AquaSeal by Costa Medical is another popular option. It involves a two-piece approach:
- The "Stoma Seal" is applied directly around the stoma.
- The "AquaSeal" ring adheres over the wafer, creating a waterproof barrier. You can find a demonstration video online to see how it works.

5. Sure Seal TM Rings from ALP Global are highly praised for both travel and swimming. You can find more information on their product page.

If you're also looking for a small athletic bag to discreetly carry your supplies in public, it might be helpful to explore options at sports stores or online retailers that specialize in athletic gear.
