Ongoing Severe Pain and Issues Post-Colostomy

This topic is about someone who is experiencing severe pain, diarrhea, and dietary confusion six months after having a colostomy. They are dealing with intense abdominal pain around the stoma, watery diarrhea, yellow mucus discharge, and stoma swelling. Despite medical tests showing no blockage, there is marked inflammation. The person has received conflicting dietary advice from their healthcare providers and is seeking suggestions to manage their symptoms better.

Here are some helpful insights and advice:

1. Consider a high-protein, low-fiber diet. A colostomy often requires less fiber than a normal bowel, so limiting traditional fiber intake might help.

2. Try eating several small meals throughout the day instead of three large ones. Having some food in your stomach can sometimes ease pain compared to having an empty stomach.

3. Make sure to chew every bite thoroughly. This can help reduce the chance of undigested pieces passing through whole.

4. Bananas might help thicken the output, although they could also increase gas.

5. Be prepared for a gradual learning process. Keep notes to identify personal trigger foods, such as salads, raw produce, or whole beans, and try to avoid or modify them by cooking thoroughly or pureeing.
