In the chatroom, there is a strip on the bottom. when you hover the mouse over it, it should change from an arrow to an I-beam. When you click there when your mouse is the I-beam, a cursor should appear. Then you can type, press enter. repeat until insane.

I could be your screen resolution is not set right for it. When I had a small monitor, I liked the images larger for my poor eyesight, so when I would do the chat, I had to change my resolution for the bar at the bottom to appear.
