Hello everyone - Could anyone suggest a top UK surgeon/consultant not in Cornwall who is a specialist, perhaps in radiotherapy damaged patients, who would like a second opinion on a possible reversal.

I am quite a complex case and I really am at a loss.

I have trawled the web but word of mouth would be a much better recommendation.

I am willing to travel anywhere in the UK - thank you x

I had UC and eventually transferred my care to Oxford after unsatisfactory care locally.

I saw Dr. Simon Travis, a consultant gastroenterologist who was personable and got things moving. Eventually, I had my colon removed. The surgery was done by Mr. Bruce George, not exactly a bundle of laughs, but my operation was very successful :)

I had my op at short notice at the John Radcliffe Hospital where the nursing care was generally pretty abysmal, I'm afraid to say. After about a week, I was transferred to the specialist gastro ward at the Churchill Hospital, also in Oxford, where the care and general vibe was superb. I missed out on being there from the start only because my health was deteriorating too badly to wait for my appointed date for surgery.

Check out their websites perhaps.

I fear NHS experiences can be terribly variable, but be a squeaky hinge 'cause they're the ones that get oiled.

Good luck :)

Mine by a long mile.. saved me from a 10 death rate so if that's not a good surgeon I don't know what is! I'd trust him any day of the week!

I am so happy for you. That's such good news. Would you mind saying who and where it was?

Hi Mollymoo

My surgeon is excellent and without his intervention I would certainly not be sitting here typing this reply.

His name is Mr. Mark Katory, Consultant Surgeon, and he is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. (North East England)

He did my emergency sub total colectomy, due to ulcerative colitis, resulting in an ileostomy, three and a half years ago and I can honestly say I have never had any problems and certainly have never looked back. This man gave me a life back!!

I wish you luck in finding yourself a surgeon as wonderful as this.

Hi Mollymoo

I had my emergency surgery due to UC done at St George's in Tooting, London, by Mr. Alex Chung. He did an excellent job, and his bedside manner is impeccable. I'm seeing him about J-Pouch planning on Monday.

He trained at St. Mark's Hospital, Harrow, which is the top hospital for this sort of thing - they developed the J-Pouch, so it could be worth looking into going there as St Mark's is so highly regarded.

St George's does have a specialist gastro ward, and I have complete faith in Mr. Chung, but if you're a complicated case it's probably worth going to the top and see what St Mark's can do for you. Good luck!

Hi Bababoo,

How's things? I've got Mrs. Blue in the Freeman now and it's really hard. Aggressive chemotherapy has got to be the worst thing anybody could go through.

I'm just thankful that I'm feeling strong in health, and it just makes all the little problems with this thing look minimal.

I've been off this week to get some work done here, but the weather seems to have beaten me.

I think it may do me good to get back to work on Monday, all those happy travelers to cheer me up ha ha.

Hope you and yours are coping.

Take care.

My surgeon is in the USA, so I can't recommend a doctor in the UK. But I wish you well on your search. And mutely, I'd like to know if that's your work in the pics you posted? I'm not a full member yet, so I can't message you about the artwork! I love it!
