When I am online my name does not show up in Private Chat. Do I have a setting that needs to be changed? I have only tried it a few times without getting responces.

Humm, I haven't used private chat much but if I'm the only one online then it just tells me no one is available to chat. I don't see my name at the time this happens. Could this be what you have seen?
