Since it's Election Day 2024, I thought of taking a poll or vote on the big three listed above.

As of late, there seem to be many members having trouble with the equipment we use. Defects, for example.

There are flanges, seals, and bags themselves busting seams.

Let's see what the first 50 members feel towards any of the brands listed above.

Re: Appliance type?

My vote goes to Coloplast Senura Mio Click- Flip. 5-finger design base plate. With a belt.

For me, I have no issues with their bags falling apart. 8 yrs. Not a drop.

For me, Re: seals? I can't say at this moment due to irritated skin, but Brava worked for me.

Re: irritation? Eakin seems the worst. (Recently several members agreed)

Simple format folks - easy to read. Make a remark/comment on each, or just one.

What's your favorite and why? Go!

Hollister mini and regular closed bags with a belt, open bags when I go for a colonoscopy. Hollister flange and Salts ring with aloe. I use flange extenders (2 piece) I have some 3 piece ones that I have not tried yet. I did try a different bag once but did not like the closure being left handed it was hard to work. I find the Salts ring is easier to make smaller than to stretch out a smaller ring.

This site is a godsend. As a newbie (colostomy on Nov 8, '21), I look at it every day for a number of reasons. Reading what people are going through makes me grateful that my elective surgery because of a severe case of IBS-C is nothing compared to what they have been through and are still living with.

I don't have to go to the hospital for anything related to my ostomy. I feel sorry for those who do and am in awe of those who can use humor to describe their ordeal. I identify with those who express their fears. I especially identify with those who are depressed because I am clinically depressed and have general anxiety disorder. How ironic that having a colostomy eliminated some of the depression and anxiety that the IBS created. I've been widowed twice and I'm on match.com.
I immediately included my operation in my profile and am pleased to say it doesn't seem to make a difference.

And there is much humor on this site and it's one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

I could name numerous things I've learned from reading people's comments/questions/answers.

After months following on a daily basis, my only negative comment is I don't like listing the most popular members.
It's not that I don't like these people; I do. It's that I think it elicits some "Facebook"-like banter or comments that are gratuitous.

I don't do any social media and think that its merits are overshadowed by too much negativity.

Meetanostomate is in no way negative. I just think the gallery of "popularity" detracts from what is an excellent website that deals with a serious issue that causes a myriad of emotions.

Bag set up: Hollister because others destroyed my skin.  Downside is they’re bulky.  The slimmer fit of the Coloplast was nicer.

Seals: Brava because they’re good on my skin and last the longest for me

Eakin - HARD pass!  Caused burning and skin irritation, plus didn’t last more than 48 hours at best

But I am always up for trying new supplies when they come out.

My set up...

Bag: Coloplast 1 piece Sensura Mio Flat, 10489 (like them, but not the holes). Allergic to both Hollister and ConvaTec.

Ring: Hollister CeraRing 8815. Brava rings strangle my stoma and put me in the hospital.

Eakin rings: Allergic plus nasty feeling.

Always found Eakin seals to be crap. I never had an allergic reaction to them, although I haven't used them for 20 years or longer, but they were always a pain in the butt to remove with all the residue left on my skin. It used to take ages scraping it off with my fingernails... adhesive remover wasn't around in those days to help. I've become allergic to a few brands over the years; it's just one of those things that happens. You're likely to be allergic in the future to other brands too; our skins, like life, are always changing.

2 piece Hollister. I wish I could wear Coloplast, but the adhesive irritated my skin.

Nothing else used. I'm pretty fortunate,  I guess.

I'm a 2-piece Convatec girl. I like the moldable fit so no cutting. I also like the 2-piece so I can wear the mini or regular depending on the circumstances: mini during the day and regular at night. I live dangerously, so no belts, rings, and I only use Brava barrier spray and adhesive remover. I'm at the almost 4-year mark, had only 1 blowout and 1 leak, so I'm fairly lucky and happy with my setup.

Will Medicare take care of you changing your bags twice a day, or do you wash them and reuse them? I have never talked to anyone about a two-piece. Right now, I can't wear them because my stoma sits below the skin, but in December, they will move it over and up and bring the stoma up, so I was wanting to try the moldable ones. I would like your opinion on whether you have leaks and the name and number of what you use. Thank you.

Medicare nor any other insurance company will cover more bags per month, unfortunately. There is one loophole, though. Have your doctor say you need more bags per month; put in for 30 bags instead of 20. That's the only way to get it approved, which I think should be the standard to begin with.

I get 30 bags per month: 20 regular and 10 mini, but I also buy out-of-pocket bags since I don't like to rinse and reuse. If I'm not going anywhere, I'll keep the regular one on and only swap it out every other day, so I typically can get away with just buying 10 mini a month. I wear Convatec flange 421034, regular pouch 421748, and mini pouch 401928.

Hollister one piece, and Salts aloe ring barrier.  I liked the feel of Coloplast, but could never get one to last longer than four days without leaks.

Hollister products. All the other samples I’ve tried were ok, just prefer the Hollister.

Awesome post, Warrior. Nice to see people's likes.

Really like the Coloplast bags. Currently using a 2-piece soft convex wafer with the stuck-on pouch.

Salts rings with aloe (thanks for suggestions from people here).

Hollister, I really like their wafers.

Convatec, I really like their moldable wafers, no cutting. Easy to apply.

Just don't like the Velcro drains on their bags.

@Rancher...thanks.

Figured people have favorites...wanted to know why...their reasons it's a favorite...and I am getting that info.

And others can decide from those favorites and reasons.

As of late, there's been a rise in complaints about defective equipment as some mentioned above.

Those Velcro "wings" I thought were very innovative. I remember using a plastic clip back in the day. Very awkward.

If you like the product, then recommend it.

When I saw this Mio Click, I just thought 5 fingers are better than 4. The wafer is starfish designed. I feel it has better bonding capacity than the four square type wafers. Just my opinion because I leak a lot. Needed a change. Issues resolved...

Salts Be Confidence one-piece drainable soft convex with Brava seals. Tried many brands and this seems the best for me with hardly any leaks. Soft material. Easy, safe, and secure opening for emptying.

I don't know why my answer appeared so many times, some kind of glitch I guess.  I also got six different notification that you liked my post Warrior!
