Season's greetings!
I'll celebrate the winter solstice on the 21st Dec - which seems near enough.

G-Day Jayne,

It's the longest day down here. So somewhere in the middle, it must be the perfect length all year.

..... Nice one ......

I have yet to eat roast goose on an Australian BBQ - on the water's edge ......

And Iggie, as the cold strengthens, you are toasty and warm ..... OUTSIDE ....

Me, yes .... but inside by the logs with a mulled wine in my hand ......

For soon it will be dark and the stars will be very visible.

.... Cheers

:-))

Guess I should say "stay cool."

G-Day Jayne,

I don't know anyone that has eaten roast goose on an Australian BBQ - on the water's edge or even barbecued a goose anywhere in Australia.

Where did you get that from?

Just a 'figure of speech' Iggie .... meaning "What I do know is when we in the UK are in the depths of winter - by comparison - you guys are in warm climates able to walk along the seashore in 'non-winter' weather" .....

Hence, the expressed concept of the "idea" of having a BBQ goose - viz our Christmas Day 'bird of choice' [personally preferred rather than a turkey] .... indeed, maybe a goose is not an ideal spit roast for a beach BBQ I guess .... but a tad of a fun idea would you not concede eh Iggie? {I've done a suckling pig on an open turning spit roast for a summer evening party - and also slow roast haunch of venison and wild [bred] boar in a slow cook hay box too one year!

Christmas Day is now - by comparison with times past, a smaller sit down ..... so a goose or a couple of ducks suffice as the meal is a smaller, more intimate affair!

Go on, now, tell us what your traditional Christmas Day is really like in your part of Australia?

Traditional and family cultures are unique and all the more enjoyable with regional and variants.

However you will be spending your Christmas Day - I hope you have a good one.

Best wishes

G-Day Jayne,

A lot of people still go for the English-style turkey lunch, but more people tend to go for lobster and prawns.

This year in Melbourne tomorrow on Christmas Day, the weather is expected to be the coldest in many years at only 17Β°C instead of a normal 35Β°C, so for me, it will be prawns followed by turkey and all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding.

Have a great Christmas, Jayne, and a better New Year.

Regards, IGGIE
