I call my ileostomy Loki.

After the god of chaos and mischief. It's a trickster, especially when changing the bag. It's a suitable name.

I didn't name my stoma, but I named my ileostomy bag “Pouis Vuitton,” followed by my comment to any listener of: “The most expensive bag I never wanted to own or have!” 🤪 The very large, internationally renowned hospital's doctors, nurses, and other staff where I had my ileostomy surgery thought it was the funniest name they'd ever heard. When I returned nine months later for a second surgery to replace my failed J pouch and during “intake” called it that, the new sets of staff who didn't know or remember me at first said, “Oh, you must be that guy who was here nine months ago - we use your bag's name and joke to cheer up other stoma patients - you've been memorialized forever!!” 😊 Hang in there, everybody - better to be on the right side of the daisies and treat every “extra” day in life as a miraculous blessing.

Hi All, If you have an " old" or recent ostomy, this is the place for you. I think I've been a member for more than 15 years, but I have had my surgery, since I was a kid of 15 ( do the math-that's more than 60 years ago). As a teen, with a new ostomy ( for Ulcerative colitis) my parents dragged me off to my first ostomy association meeting. I wasn't happy, but in the long run, it's the best thing that happened to me. I met others, older, and teens like me, adjusting to the changes. A group of us started a Young adult group, and helped each other, and even visited kids who were new to the world of ostomies. But soon I married, and moved out of state, and although made some connections with other NJ ostomates, I became pretty much isolated. Until I discovered MaO. By then, I was having a myriad of other medical issues, and my aging stoma " wasn't doing well". I received a lot of help and support from members! I was pleased that I was also back to supporting others. I met a gal on line (from Papua New Guinea) who was trying to help ostomates in her country. There is a scarcity of supplies in some other countries, and unlike the US, insurance to pay for supplies isn't available. When my son followed his "love" twenty years ago, and moved to Australia I took advantage of an opportunity to help other ostomates. On one of my first visits to Oz, I brought a suitcase full of Ostomy supplies, handed them off to an Ostomy assoc. On the Gold Coast, who then had a friend take them to PNG. They were grateful for the help, and Janet and I still write.. This is the place to be, if you need help, and it also gives you the opportunity to provide help and support to others. Feel free to write, if you'd like to chat, about things ostomy, or life in general. Best REgards to all.. Marsha

I have two; mine are Reggie and Ronnie, after the Kray twins, because they can both be naughty at times. Ha ha 😂

My surgeon smiled when I said I wanted matching shoes for my bag.

Yes, I had my daughters come up with mine.

Mambo, lol, I have no idea, but that was the best out of a hat full.

Bless them, it was good to involve them, though try to normalize it a little.

I never thought of naming my "gat," Afrikaans for arse or hole, soft g - the ginormous diamond mine in Kimberley is known as "Die Groot Gat / The Big Hole," but she's served me well...ish for 72 years, so maybe I'll name her... Gina the ballerina gat!

Yes, I have named my stoma Stella right from the start. Received my colostomy last May and figured I need to make best friends with my stoma. So, yesterday, when a bit of a blowout occurred, I had a talk with Stella. All is well.🙏Namaste and enjoy the moment!

Named mine "Lil Toot Toot" 🤣. When she starts blabbing, my family tells her to quit talking back. 😆 She has impeccable timing too.

No lol, but if you have any suggestions, I might lol. My mom always says that it looks like my stoma is wearing lipstick because it's so red.

I named mine Fred. I didn't know it was a thing until after I named it. I found out from my ostomy nurse that there's even a place to make it official! Fred likes to talk a lot of crap...stupid pun, but I'm new at this. I'm trying to find the humor in life. Otherwise, I may just want to give up, and that can't happen.

I've named every car I've owned too. Presently, I own an 11-year-old Subaru Outback - Samantha 🚙

As long as you never had or named a car "Christine," you are safe. 😁 Google the movie they made about "her."

Never named a car either. I think I might be "name-challenged." 🤣🤣🤣

England has the most suitable names for fighter aircraft: Hurricane, Spitfire, Tempest, Fury, Tornado. The second is the most famous of all, as well as the most elegant-looking, if that word applies to weapons of destruction. Please note that each word would aptly describe a stoma; here's a list of names for those who are undecided about what to name it.

I had a Spitfire when I was there. A friend borrowed it, and some boys picked it up from his driveway and left it neatly parked on the street. Very lightweight it was.

No. But I'm debating whether it would be a good fit in a puppet show.
