I have an ileostomy as most may know. I have always suffered from weeping sinus due to 18 cm of mesh placed in to stop or at least reduce hernias. yesterday a sinus opened up right at the edge of the stome and just below it. The hole is about 4 x 5 mm but it looks like this sinus has joined to 2 other about 4 inches to the upper left of the stoma. Of course because the stoma is leaking fluid by days end the glue is letting go on the flange and pus is leaking as well as faecal matter which gthers over the hole. This infection has been making feel sick but not enough to stop me and intense burning pain arounfd my stoma is a bastard. I have beern packing the hole with sterile gauze which soaks up the fluyid but its slowly getting bigger. Any advice from a stomal nurse? I know already whats going to be said "go to hospital immediately". But I have 2 more exams at Uni this week and I want to finish them. Wjen I shower I let water run into the hole and wash out the muck so its fairly clean. Please help if ya can.

Good Evening Bob and All,
I checked my email and saw new postings. That's when I usually visit the site. I've recently met a few others who have developed UC and have made contact with them. I've directed them to this site. I also use the site to look up concerns they or I have. This site has been unusually helpful to me. I have seen questions and concerns of others posted. After I scroll down and see similar comments that I would make, I don't comment. As for social media interest, I have a Facebook account (due to work). As of this date, I have one Facebook Friend (and don't even know how that happened). I find the content here more relevant to my life. Then again, I'm old school. If I want to see how a friend is doing I just make a call.
Stay Safe and Sane all. Back to the hockey game,

A convex ostomy skin barrier can help prevent output leakage and skin issues. Unfortunately, some misconceptions about convexity may keep people with ostomies from using it.
