I have an ileostomy as most may know. I have always suffered from weeping sinus due to 18 cm of mesh placed in to stop or at least reduce hernias. yesterday a sinus opened up right at the edge of the stome and just below it. The hole is about 4 x 5 mm but it looks like this sinus has joined to 2 other about 4 inches to the upper left of the stoma. Of course because the stoma is leaking fluid by days end the glue is letting go on the flange and pus is leaking as well as faecal matter which gthers over the hole. This infection has been making feel sick but not enough to stop me and intense burning pain arounfd my stoma is a bastard. I have beern packing the hole with sterile gauze which soaks up the fluyid but its slowly getting bigger. Any advice from a stomal nurse? I know already whats going to be said "go to hospital immediately". But I have 2 more exams at Uni this week and I want to finish them. Wjen I shower I let water run into the hole and wash out the muck so its fairly clean. Please help if ya can.

Goodness me, that sounds like a real problem, Gus. I wish I knew what to suggest (other than go to the hospital, but I know that's not quite what you're looking for.) In the meantime, pay attention to other signs your body sends out - like, are you running a temperature, are you dizzy, etc. If you have any of these types of signs, then it's time to call 911 or get yourself to an ER, pronto.

I wish things weren't so shitty for you right now. It's like, how much can possibly go wrong for ONE person!? It's mind boggling. I do hope that you are keeping your options open in terms of seeing various medical professionals, because one day you might just find the person who can help you get out of this rut where things keep going wrong. Surely there's an end to these problems in sight?

*hugs* to you!

Good Evening Bob and All,

I checked my email and saw new postings. That's when I usually visit the site. I've recently met a few others who have developed UC and have made contact with them. I've directed them to this site. I also use the site to look up concerns they or I have. This site has been unusually helpful to me. I have seen questions and concerns of others posted. After I scroll down and see similar comments that I would make, I don't comment. As for social media interest, I have a Facebook account (due to work). As of this date, I have one Facebook Friend (and don't even know how that happened). I find the content here more relevant to my life. Then again, I'm old school. If I want to see how a friend is doing I just make a call.

Stay Safe and Sane all. Back to the hockey game,

SharkFan

I'll say - I would have had a monumental tempertantrum if I were you by now. Well, probably more than one tempertantrum. Seriously, when is enough, enough!? I wrote a long reply on the thread you made in the "let's talk" forum, and I hope it didn't come off as know-it-all or presumptuous.

Oh, super lame. =/ You would think that with a condition that is so common (having a stoma of some kind), there would be more resources available to people. I know that in my area of Canada, I felt SO fortunate that we had the best ostomy care nurses at our disposal, and even home care nurses to help Tyler out post surgery. Gus, if only you could come to BC and get this seen to, but I know such notions aren't practical, or possible.

Sorry about my 911 comment, I forgot that you weren't a citizen of North America, Gus. =P
