I have had an ileostomy since November 2022. My stoma (Stella) is oval, and my skin is uneven around Stella. This makes it hard to size the barrier as well as get it to stick. Does anyone else with an oval stoma have the same issue? If so, help! Frustrated!

Take a piece of heavy construction paper and make a template to use. It might take a bit to get it trimmed just right, but once you do, it should be good. Do you use a barrier ring or paste to fill in the unevenness?

Meetanostomate has been a great avenue and resource to meet new people with the same challenges, fall in love, fall out of love but most of all fall out of loneliness that comes with self-doubt…

Sounds super similar to mine.

What brand/type of system are you using? Convex? What supplies do you have to work with?

Do you still have access to an ostomy nurse?

What type of ileostomy do you have?

Hollister has oval measuring sheets—I don't know if that's the right word, it's like using a stencil. They'll send that to you for free and probably a sample of anything you want. They sent me a 'gift box,' unfortunately, I'm allergic to something in most Hollister products, my ostomy nurses think the dye? But their customer service is great.

As IT'S ME wrote, do you use ring or paste? I know someone who used paste for uneven skin, though I think it stung when first applied.

Try Skin Tac wipes after cleaning, then heat your flange with a blow dryer just long enough to activate the glue. It certainly helped me tremendously.
