Hello, I had a J-pouch created in February of 2016. I had a fistula, which we knew about before the surgery, but the doctor thought he could repair it after the J-pouch surgery. I had the surgery to fix the fistula, but it didn't work. Long story short, I still have my loop ileostomy and the J-pouch is not connected. Is there anyone else out there who never connected your J-pouch?

Hello

I have a pouch but had it disconnected as it was a disaster. It's still there. I also knew a woman who had it created but never connected, so yes, that is the answer to your question.

This site has been a blessing for me in learning how to cope with and navigate this journey as an ostomate. I have a colostomy as a result of a perforation in my colon since May of this year. I don't know yet if it will be permanent or reversible. The people on here have provided me with so much advice and information about living with an ostomy that I don't think I could get anywhere else. You all have given me hope and a place to come to for support. I still struggle with acceptance, but know that it will come if I am patient. Patience has never been my strong suit! Also, I love all the humor, although it really pissed me off when I first came on here. Thanks to all of you.

Yes, it's a long, drawn-out story why I had a J-pouch, so I won't go there, lol. But yes, I had a non-functioning J-pouch; it failed from the start. It had a very bad infection, and I developed desmoid tumors on my small bowel due to the condition I had my colon removed for, so it was just doomed to fail on me. My J-pouch had to be removed because of the infection.

I had a J-Pouch for 18 years, but I had a lot of problems with it, so I went for a full ileostomy, removed the J-Pouch, and the anus & rectum, and got a full-on Ken Butt. Best thing I ever did. I love my stoma. Regards, IGGIE
