Hey, has anyone tried the Stoma Genie cartridge? What are your thoughts?

I tried it with my urostomy for the first time today. It worked well enough, but 1) it is awkward to completely change with only 1 hand, and 2) I had trouble remembering to hold it in position, making it less effective.

Both drawbacks may go away with practice. I'm undecided on my final opinion.

I just wanted to tell all the users of this site that I really love having the opportunity to express my feelings here. I'm positive that many feel the same. I wish that all here come out of the experience you have here will be like mine. Support and understanding from others with issues similar like each other will help us all and give the relief we all crave, well, I'm selfish. I'm here because I need support. And I find enough here to help in the tough times. Thank you. I really mean it.

I read about this on Amazon. Hands-free Stoma Genie mounts are available. Looks like they would work. Search for Stoma Genie on Amazon, scroll down on the ad to see different mounting options.

I have tried it. And while the concept is a good idea, it doesn't work. And it is only designed to be done with a 2-piece system.

Takes all the fun out of changing.

I use it all the time. I have severe nerve damage associated with my hands. Once you get used to it, it's more of a 1-1/2 hand operation than a 1 hand. My stoma likes to engage with me when I am changing my appliance. The stoma genie allows me to place it over my stoma, and then I can take as much time as I like cleaning and prepping my peristomal skin. I use packets for adhesive removal and also for skin prep — I can open the packets while holding the stoma genie in place. Opening the packets is the 1-1/2 hand operation. For reference, I have a colostomy and use a 2-piece appliance with closed pouches. Unlike many on this site, I change my ostomy while sitting. Lack of hand dexterity is an impediment to changing while standing. I say all of this to illustrate that your personal circumstances will dictate how useful it is to you.

Hmm, sounds like someone I dated years ago. 😆 Jeanie Stoma. She took a lot of crap from me. 🤦‍♂️

I have it ordered, and it should be here soon.

I do use a 2-piece system, so I will try.

I hope it works.

Thanks

Very helpful. My hands aren't great either.
