Hello guys, I've had my ileostomy since October 2024, and I've been struggling with sore skin around my stoma. I was wondering if anyone had any solutions or ways to treat it. I've been using some paste and powder, as well as the ring on my bag, but nothing seems to help. Thank you!

Try a skin prep. I also use a ring with aloe from Salts. Others use calamine lotion and other stuff.

Try using a liquid skin protectant: Marathon or Calvion 3M advanced skin protectant. These are the only types of skin protectants that will actually protect the skin. I posted pictures below. And make sure you're not cutting your wafer with gaps; it should be to the size and shape of your stoma. Gaps will cause leakage. Make sure your skin is free of soaps, lotions, and creams; only certain soaps can be used around the stoma, and it must be fully dried before putting on the wafer. Warm up the wafer before putting it on.

Hello and welcome to meet an ostomate. The site charges a fee only for Full Membership, you can still interact with members here via the forums and the public chat room with free membership. The site charges a fee since it has expenses ... as do all websites, people have to spend their time to run and maintain the site, buy bandwith, servers, and other things. I am a life member here, it cost me 56$....about the price of 1 cup of coffee a week for a year. I think that is a very small charge for such a big reward. In my opinion this site is the best ostomy-related web site on the net. I hope you will stick around awhile and see for yourself. I do not own or am I in any manner connected to this site except as a member. regards. mmsh

I agree with Xnine. Get yourself some Salts aloe rings. They are the only thing that worked to clear up my severe skin irritation, and I've used them ever since. My peri-stomal skin has remained healthy.

This is what I've used for years.  It also comes in a spray, but I prefer this as I can readily apply it easily where I want it, which is typically over the stoma powder that precedes it around the stoma.

Great advice has already been given.

Check your old ring when you change your appliance. Look for evidence of leakage. If you have some leakage, you'll need to make adjustments to keep the skin healthy.

Marathon works really well.
