Can I eat kabsa sauerkraut with an ileostomy? I've had the ostomy almost two years now.

That's a definite no for me; however, you may be one of the lucky ones who can eat anything. I guess you won't know unless you try. Just try a few bites at first.

I'd be very careful with it, and I have a colostomy. But it's worth a try... great probiotics in sauerkraut. Just eat a bite or two and see what happens.

Now wait for it... more ileostomates will come along soon.

I wouldn't try to eat that; I have an ileostomy and have since Jan. 1, 2022. I don't play around with things I think might cause a blockage. As others have said, though, you can try a very small amount and see how it goes.

I eat it in small portions from time to time. If you do try it, make sure you're chewing it really well or cut it up. The only thing is it smells like death coming out, and it will be watery. The KABAS I would highly recommend a lower fat. You don't want one that's too much grease. (I know it has all the flavor.) But your gut will hate you. Good luck. 🫂

I have an ileostomy as well, and I eat everything, but something like sauerkraut, I would be very careful with. I would just have a small portion and make sure to chew, chew, and then for good measure, chew again. I haven't eaten sauerkraut for years, since my colostomy, but I have had kimchi, which is pretty similar, and had no problem.

Terry, you mentioned that you have both a colostomy and an ileostomy. Does that mean you originally had a colostomy and later had to get an ileostomy?

Yes, I started with a colostomy after a perforated colon. It was not successful, so after nearly a year, I got my ileostomy. For a few months, I had both, but the colostomy stoma was not functioning. After we were sure that the ileostomy was working well for me, I had a final surgery to remove my colon and close up the colostomy site. So, yes, I'm now the proud owner of an ileostomy only. One stoma is quite enough, thank you. Not sure how many cylinders it has!

I love sauerkraut as well, but no way would I eat it. It's very hard to chew it into small enough pieces. And if you do try it, it might just be that one little piece that gives you a blockage.

Hi all, I eat occasionally in small amounts, but it comes out like it goes in. As Iggie said, it's hard to chew it into tiny bits.
