Blockage, Abdominal Pain, and Burping: Should I Go to the ER?

I started having severe waves of abdominal pain today with decreased output... never happened before... something I ate, like candy-coated malted balls, which I guess are high in fiber. I've been massaging my stomach and stoma, sipping liquids. I have a mass on my colon that hasn't been surgically removed yet. I also keep burping. I finally got some semisolid output of 300 ml. But whenever I sip my liquids, I get the abdominal pain. Should I go to the ER?

It could be a blockage, so it's up to you, but the ER is a possibility, especially if you start to vomit.

If it's still going on (looks like about 8 hours later), get to the ER. I hope you're okay.

I agree with iggie... Also, because it might be a blockage, stay on liquids and don't eat. Try chicken broth, some warm tea to see if it helps. Move along or even a Coke to see if it will break up any blockage.

Don't eat, but also don't let it go too long. Iggie is right; especially if you start throwing up, you need to go to the ER. If it doesn't clear in a day or so with just liquids, go to the hospital.

Thanks for the advice. Called my home care nurse the next morning, who called my surgeon's nurse. Went to the ER on their advice. Had another cat scan after drinking the liquid. It doesn't appear to be a blockage now. Keeping me for a couple of days for observation to see how I tolerate liquids and then solid food.

Addendum to my post... I've been in the hospital for a couple of days... getting ready to come home... I keep having urges to have a bowel movement... this morning I passed some red blobs in the toilet from my rectum, and the toilet paper was reddish. Not sure if it was blood or from cranberry juice this morning and red jello yesterday... the doctor said I could still go home, ???

Do you still have colon cancer? If so, that's plenty of explanation for blood.

Gotcha... having an appointment with the surgeon on May 28. Surgery is scheduled for June 11. When I got home from the hospital, I passed a little bit more blood. I had some solid food for dinner... protein drink, apple sauce, peanut butter sandwich with raspberry jam. Then I had the urge for a bowel movement... had output in my bag but also had rectal gas and passed

100 ml of pinkish liquid from my rectum! I was drinking raspberry electrolytes and had the raspberry jam... But liquid from my rectum???

I'd definitely mention it to the surgeon when you see him. But try not to panic.

I had so much going wrong in the last few weeks before surgery that I feared they'd cancel the surgery. It was nuts. I'm glad you don't have too much longer to wait for surgery.

Thanks... I'm really getting sick of the ER and blood draws, etc. 😔🙃! But I've got a lot of people praying for me from the onset. God is in control. 🙏

If you start vomiting, go to the ER straight away. Be prepared, though; they will probably put an NG tube in you. It might be a partial blockage. If you are having a little output, then you can't be fully blocked. Just be careful of what you are eating. Maybe have a smaller serving of it, or avoid it altogether.
