It held up fine in the heated pool, I didn’t do a lot, basically floated around & then got out, but no issues with it holding. I even did a shower afterward without issue. Changing the bag that evening was a bear though, as the adhesive was one big gooey mess! I went through a bunch of adhesive remover wipes & still ended up just pulling it off & getting it everywhere. I think the extra pieces I put on the outside were more of an issue, so I’m ordering a different brand of outside support arcs.

Hi Dwild, congrats! Building confidence by returning to enjoyable activities is huge. Keep up the effort, and rewards will follow.

I take part in these forums almost every day. They and the people that contribute to them have made all the difference in my having the courage to live a normal life with an ileostomy. The people here are marvelous and come from all walks of life and from all over the world. Hearing what others have lived through has really helped me put my own experience in perspective. I highly recommend all ostomates and caretakers of ostomates to come join us.

Glad you went swimming! I'm living vicariously until these drains are out. 🤣

I love swimming! I swim 5 times a week. I have a system when it comes to my pouching. I have my regular everyday pouch and a smaller swim pouch that I clean out and alternate back and forth, which also prolongs the wear time of each pouch.

Try using adhesive remover spray instead of the wipes; the spray is a lot more effective than the wipes and way kinder to your skin.

Glad to hear swimming went so well for you. I hope to get back to swimming one day, as soon as I have my wafer situation figured out and get a new suit that fits me, since the one I have now is too big. The bag cover I have now is too big also. So, I have some stuff I have to do before I can go swimming again, but I hope to be able to sometime soon. Enjoy! And yes, try spray adhesive remover!

Before changing my stoma bag, I spend 1 hour in the sauna, dip in an ice bath, then around 20 minutes in a magnesium spa without any leaking problems so far. I regularly do the above twice a week. On very few occasions, there has been some separation from the skin around the stoma at the top of the bag.

What type of system do you use?

I found the Coloplast Brava a nightmare to remove after any time in water. I use the Salts Confidence Be convex bags now and have no issues no matter how wet I get. Weirdly, the Salts flat ones seem to set 'crusty' at the edges even after just a shower and drying. I rang Salts, and they were sure they were the same adhesive, but a friend recently had the same issue.

So what kind of wafer do you use? Hollister? I'm new to this but will have access to a pool very soon. Do you have to change wafers more often? And what kind of pouch protection do you use?

Salts is a brand, but it isn't available in the US.

Use whatever brand you are currently using. If you experience problems, then try a different brand.

A lot of people like wafer extenders. Personally, I use a bonding cement called Torbot for my everyday wear, and I think that would also do a great job of helping if you find wear time decreasing.
