Morning Everyone!

I had a emergency surgery 10/11  for large bowel resection, ended up with colomosy permanent. I have Crohns for 40 yrs. so I am lucky in alot of ways, that I didn't have colomsy sooner.
Than in
Feb 2012 it prolapse did surgery Again put meshing in this time. They said I was good to go.
Now 5 months later it is prolapsing again??? I am not having problems with flanges, etc. every five days I change everything and it is working fine so far. But the dia does keep getting larger and the bowel is coming out slowly. I am confused by this.
I can't keep taking off from work, was out 6 months just got back April 1. If I tell the boss I will be out again he will flap. The surgeon said this is a easy fix as he would not move the stoma just fix or
we can wait an see how it goes, so far it is liveable. Has anyone else had this Problem??? If so what was the outcome. Don't want to do this, and it happens again!!!! Would sooner wait and see. Just confused! As I have to take 2-3 days off this July for surgery skin cancer squarmous cell, plus I also had lung surgery in Dec of 2011...so I have been on a roll. Anyone out there have any advice. Really thought the stoma was behind me, I have no problem living with it, but I just can't keep having it put back in.
ThankYou
Spade

Hi Spade ~ my stoma prolapsed 4 years ago just after my initial surgery. Since then the prolapse has not improved nor has it worsened.  At its extreme there are 4 inches of large intestine hanging out. I wear a Convatec Sports Shield over the stoma to protect it.  When I change the flange I need to lie on my back for up to 10 minutes waiting for the stoma to retract enough so I can apply the new flange. It causes me no problems and in some ways helps prevent leaks under my flange because the output leaves my body several inches away from the hole in the flange (definitely better than dealing with a recessed stoma).

In both of my cases, I had no choice. It was surgery or be put 6 feet under! I thank God that He has been with me all these times. Without Him, I never would have known what to do and might not have gone to the hospital when I did. I don't know if you have had your surgery or not yet but I hope you will hang out on this website when you are done. I have learned a great deal through the people here and it is so great having others who have had the same thing done and been through what you are about to or have gone through. The only thing I have turned down is a reversal of the ileostomy. When the doctors did the emergency rebuilding of my original ileostomy this last February, I told them I did not want to go through this again. My doctor told me at that time that I was no longer a candidate for the reversal. In a way, I was very relieved. The last three years of my life have been a nightmare for me. I do not want to go through any of it again. If you wish to be rehooked up and they say you are a good choice for that, research it carefully. Every surgery I have ever had except for Old and New Maxine and the emergency surgery on my broken foot, I have spent weeks researching. I recently had my C5 C6 disk in my neck replaced with an artificial one. I went to my pre-op with 2 pages of questions for the doctor. I knew everything that they were going to do and could talk intelligently with them. I always try to research my adversaries! Don't cancel your surgery. It is nice not to have to suffer any longer with horrible pain. We all had to change a few things around when we had our surgeries but in the long run, most of us are glad we did it. I know I am. Good luck to you!
