Ostomy Memories of Men's Underwear

This topic is about finding the right underwear for men after undergoing ostomy surgery. The author shares his personal journey and offers some helpful tips for others in a similar situation.

- As a child, he wore the typical white jockey shorts.
- In adulthood, before surgery, he switched to boxer shorts.
- After the surgery, he found that boxers didn't work well with his stoma. If they were too high, they looked awkward, and if too low, they didn't support the pouch. He found that bikini briefs provided the right support and prevented rubbing.
- Currently, he uses specially designed ostomy underwear with an inner pocket to hold and support the pouch, especially during exercise. Initially, he found these tricky to put on without losing balance, but he eventually figured out a method that worked for him.
- He humorously reflects on aging, noting that middle age was when he could put on underwear without holding onto the dresser, but now he always needs the dresser for balance.

Additional insights include:

1. During medical visits, he is often asked if he has fallen recently, highlighting balance issues that can make dressing more challenging.
2. Despite his wife's encouragement to do online balance exercises, he is reluctant.
3. One benefit of retirement is not having to wear underwear all the time.

Advice and insights from the discussion:

- Sit down to put on underwear or any lower-body garment, then stand to pull it up. This helps avoid balance problems.
- Women in the discussion noted similar struggles with snug garments like Spanx, pantyhose, and tights. They suggest taking extra care or choosing alternatives like thigh-high hose.
