Dealing with Persistent Peristomal Itching Post-Urectomy

This topic is about dealing with persistent itching and irritation around the stoma area, which has been troubling someone for seven months following a urectomy. Despite trying various pouching systems and skin-care products, relief has been elusive. Here are some suggestions and insights that might help:

1. Consider revisiting a Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nurse (WOCN) or another qualified ostomy specialist for a detailed reassessment. These professionals are often skilled at resolving ongoing skin issues.

2. The itching and irritation might be due to over-growing scar tissue, fissures, or adhesions that are still healing. It would be beneficial to get a formal diagnosis to confirm or rule out these possibilities.

3. If the issue is related to scar tissue, inquire about supervised physiotherapy techniques. These involve nurses gently stretching the peristomal scar tissue to break adhesions and reduce itching. It's important that this is done under professional supervision.
