Struggling with Persistent Peristomal Skin Issues and Tape Not Sticking

The topic at hand is about dealing with persistent weeping skin around a stoma, which makes it difficult for any adhesive to stick. This can be a frustrating situation, especially when you're trying to manage leaks and ensure proper healing. Here are some helpful tips and advice to consider:

1. Consult professionals
- It's important to schedule an urgent visit with a stoma or wound-ostomy-continence nurse (WOCN) or an experienced dermatologist. They might prescribe medication or specialized dressings that can help.

2. High-strength breathable skin protectants
- Consider using Marathon (Medline/Coloplast) cyanoacrylate skin protectant. It dries on contact and forms a hard shell over the weepy skin, allowing adhesives to stick.
- Another option is the 3M Cavilon Advanced Skin Protectant, which many users prefer for its long-lasting and robust film. It's often described as the "Mercedes of skin protectants."
- "Infinity" is sometimes used as a synonym for Marathon and can be considered as an alternative.

3. Cleaning and mini-regimen for raw, weeping skin
- Start by removing the pouch and any residue with an adhesive-remover wipe.
- Rinse the area with warm water, using a towel to protect your clothing or bed.
- Apply a very thin layer of Neosporin and let it air-dry for about 5 minutes.
- Wash off the Neosporin with antibacterial soap, rinse well, and air-dry for another 5 minutes.
- Repeat this routine once daily for about three days. This has been reported to stop weeping and allow for normal pouch wear time.

4. Protective rings and accessories
- Salts Aloe Rings can provide longer wear time and gentle protection for sensitive skin.

5. General tips
- Use skin-prep wipes, like standard Cavilon wipes, over non-weeping areas to create a protective film before applying any barrier.
- Be persistent. Combine crusting or powder with one of the advanced skin protectants mentioned above to create an adhesive surface if the exudate is minimal.

These steps can help manage the situation and promote healing, making it easier to maintain your routine and comfort.
