Struggling with Insufficient Filter Stickers - Any Tips?

This topic is about finding solutions for those who struggle with insufficient filter stickers for their ostomy pouches. The person who started the discussion prefers to keep the filters on their ostomy pouches covered but finds that the supply of stickers provided by the manufacturer is not enough. They are seeking practical alternatives or workarounds.

Here are some helpful suggestions and insights shared by others:

1. Use generic tapes or stickers:
- You can use waterproof medical or paper tape, ordinary office "sticky dots" used for labeling, or a small piece of barrier-extender tape to cover the filter.
- Some people have found success in re-using the factory sticker by moving it to a dry spot next to the filter after showering.

2. Switch to pouches without filters:
- Brands like Coloplast offer filter-less versions. You can contact customer service or request free samples to find a model that works for you.

3. Change pouch style or routine:
- Consider using closed-end bags from brands like Coloplast, Hollister, or Convatec, which are changed 2–3 times per day. This routine might prevent the filter from clogging, eliminating the need to cover it.
- Keep a spare, inexpensive pouch, such as a Hollister closed pouch, specifically for showering. Rinse it out and hang it to dry, which can save the stickers on your main pouch.

4. If filters are unwanted or cause pancaking:
- Some users prefer a little air in the pouch. Covering or eliminating the filter can prevent the "vacuum" effect and reduce pancaking issues.

5. Community offer:
- In a light-hearted gesture, one member offered to mail their unused Convatec/Coloplast stickers to anyone who needs extras.
