Concerns about tight clothing and ileostomy

This topic is about whether wearing tight clothing, like stretch jeans, is safe for someone with an ileostomy. Here are some helpful insights and advice from people who have shared their experiences:

1. General safety: Many people find that tight or skinny jeans are generally safe to wear. The key is comfort and personal tolerance. Your stoma will let you know if something is wrong by causing discomfort.

2. Everyday experience: One person with a colostomy mentioned they wear GAP skinny jeans and the "Sexy Boyfriend" cut without any issues.

3. Fit adjustments for high-output ileostomies:
- Tight denim might become uncomfortable as the pouch fills with output or gas.
- To manage this, you can try emptying the pouch more frequently, opting for elastic-waist or stretch pants, or buying jeans or trousers that are half to one size larger.

4. Alternative garments:
- Maternity jeans are a good option because they have a wide, stretchy waistband that can accommodate the pouch and any output. You can wear longer tops to cover the stretch panel.

5. Ostomy-specific clothing:
- There are jeans available from iamdenim that feature a built-in, skin-thin stretchy belly band. This band cushions the stoma, protects it from the denim, and includes an opening that makes emptying easier, which is especially helpful for those with high-output ileostomies.
