Dealing with Stones in a Koch Pouch Ileostomy

This topic is about a person who has had a Koch Pouch ileostomy since 1983. Recently, a CT scan showed that there are three stones inside the pouch, with one being 3 cm and the other two being 1 cm each. The doctor suggested seeing a general surgeon, but the person is looking for advice and experiences from others who might have faced similar situations.

Here are some helpful insights and advice shared by others:

- It is generally advised to consult with a specialist rather than a general surgeon. This could be:
1. The original surgeon who performed the Koch pouch procedure, if they are still available.
2. A colorectal or other specialist surgeon who has specific experience with continent (Koch) ileostomies.

- The reason for consulting a specialist is that they are more likely to be up-to-date with the latest procedures and understand the underlying causes. They can offer a full range of both surgical and non-surgical options for removing stones from a Koch pouch.
