Eight years now, and I do everything I used to do beforehand with some slight adjustments. I forget it's even there most of the time. I don't have time to waste thinking about my stoma; I've got things to do and places to go. 😀

Great place for newbies to learn, I have helped many folks on here learn to irrigate, plus learned a few tricks myself. Great informative site.

That’s what happened to me too.  The radiation “melted” the intestines so that lots of spots closed up causing obstructions.  Unfortunately 1.5 years later,  I am still having it happen and get to be scoped every 3 months to deal with these areas by dilating them open & draining the blood.

But,  I’m still here so I guess that’s still a good trade.

G-Day Pamela,

I had ulcerated colitis for many years, so in 2004, I got my colon removed and got a J-pouch. Then in 2021, I went back to an ileostomy, and I have gotten so used to it I often forget it's there. I have even made a label that says CHANGE and I put it where I can't miss it because I do forget to change it sometimes. So yes, you will get used to it.

Regards, IGGIE
