Recovering at Home After Successful Reversal Surgery

Just home from the hospital after my reversal surgery on Monday. All went well; the surgeon was really pleased with how it went and how my bowel had healed. Bowel movements have been 2 to 3 times a day, soft but not diarrhea, with no real pain, and pain at the incision site is manageable, so I feel really grateful.

I am, however, a little anxious that something will go wrong and I'll end up in another emergency surgery. I think it's because my first surgery went well, but then I had a complication and emergency surgery that resulted in the stoma. I'm sure this will pass with time and is probably something I need to talk through in therapy.

So fingers crossed my recovery keeps going as well as it started. ๐Ÿ™

Angelica- As usual, you've written another interesting post. February 5th, 2019, was my reversal surgery after having an ileo for 6 months. I'm one of those fortunate success stories. Of course, things are different now, and I still have to be careful about what and how much I eat, as I don't have a colon. At first, I was afraid to leave the house. My biggest fear was having to use a public bathroom and have the toilet not flush! Even now, when I know that I'll be in someone else's home, I won't eat anything beforehand. I read other people's stories and sometimes feel guilty for having had it so easy, not to mention that I have a significant other who is 100 percent supportive. I've gotten so much out of this website and truly feel for those of you who have it so much worse than I. But I feel it necessary to let folks hear about the success stories.

Pleased surgery went well and recovery is going very well.

Look on the bright side; if you think the worst, you can only get good news, and it's looking like you're getting nothing but good news, and long may it continue.

I was the same after my last big surgery. I felt so well it made me really confused for the first few weeks. I wanted something to go wrong so I would feel really ill like I had with my emergency surgery.

I'm 4 weeks post-op and doing great. My bowel is almost back to normal. I had no diarrhea or multiple movements like some experience; the most was 6 times in a day, and that was just once when I started reintroducing fiber.

I know some people have weeks and months of issues, so I feel really lucky, but it is important to share that it can also go smoothly.

Wishing you all the best for your reversal.

Thank you for your positivity!! I am scared sh!tless while trying to remain positive and hopeful. I try to stay on topics like "How many days before I stop tapping my stomach to feel if it is time to empty," but the negative posts still come through. Also, people are commenting on the dangers of multiple bouts with anesthesia so close together. Yikes!!

I fully understand the negative stories also had me really worried. I had 3 surgeries in 12 weeks and no anesthesia issues, and I usually feel faint and sick the day after surgery, but not this time around, thank God. The surgery for the reversal can be an hour or less if there are no complications, so I think that helps with the quick recovery.

I really am almost back to my old self. The toughest thing I've found is alcohol consumption, and maybe that's not the worst thing. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Awesome..๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ..there you go.. whew, right? Now you can help others perhaps..give back a little.. you had a tough time pre-reversal.. others are facing that now.. good to have you back and back to normal.

P.S. don't drink alcohol!๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ
