Blood on Stoma After Walking: Anyone Else?

I just noticed a little blood inside my bag after a short walk. It's not outputting but coming from the outside of the stoma itself. The tissue looks irritated from rubbing on the bag, possibly?

I'll ask my stoma nurse; I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

G-Day Milhouse04,

Your stoma should never be rubbing on your bag. If the hole in the base is cut too close to the stoma, that's not a good thing. I leave a couple of millimeters clear of the stoma but make my sealing washer up close to the stoma.

See what your stoma says.

Hello! Hope your all, having a great start of your day! I have to say this place has been helpful in many ways and the people here, seem very real and mostly helpful in anyway! I usually don't bother anyone really and try to figure out different things on my own, but that is with common sense, but with experience definitely helps and I read stories and I have my own stories and it's been so much and it's nice to have friends here, who understand same kind of situation 😊
I think it's great when people help each other and who is helpful in different ways! I appreciate anything advice etc... Thank you all and very happy this site is here ! I hope you have a good day/night! I'm trying to figure out how to take care of me more then I used to as I think of others more then myself! I'm hoping your all having a great summer! I get the same often after my morning walk. At first, I was worried it was coming from within, but then I noticed it was from the flange rubbing sometimes against the stoma. It seems to do it more as the bag fills up and pulls down from the weight. This is the only time it happens, and I really don't worry about it now.

Oh, it's not rubbing on the flange; I mean on the thin plastic of the clear bag itself that collects your discharge.

To an extent, it's normal; there are a lot of blood vessels in the tissue of the small intestine for taking nutrients out of the food.

I sometimes get very small amounts welling up when I'm changing the bag, etc.

If it bleeds profusely, then I would get your nurse to look at it, but if it's just spots, then it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Thanks, everyone. It stopped bleeding as soon as I got back from my walk, so I'm not too concerned. Still, I will run it by my stoma nurse during my next visit.

Very helpful

As you move and exercise, you will raise your blood pressure, so it may make the stoma a little more pink/red in color. Anyway, this may cause a little blood to weep/wick to the surface.

Your stoma is very vascular and will bleed if it gets rubbed. Are you cutting your wafer too small? That is something to consider. Do you use a ring? If you use a ring, it can protect your stoma from rubbing up against your wafer and getting sore and bleeding.

Your stoma rubbed on something; nothing to worry about. If you happen to be changing your bag or have a two-piece system, you can put a little stoma powder on it to help it clot so it stops.

Oh, I'm actually referring to the output end of the stoma, not around the flange. Seems to be better now. Thanks for the reply!
