Just flew to Hungary. I really wasn't ready for the trip. Luckily, I was able to upgrade and had a very nice experience. I'm 4 months post-surgery but not in good enough shape for all the walking on tours. I'm on a Viking River cruise.
I am always chilled and had to buy a jacket. My suitcase is packed with ostomy supplies.

Next cruise is in February. I should be okay for that one. Second Star Trek cruise. They are so much fun. Ship full of geeks.

Hi All, If you have an " old" or recent ostomy, this is the place for you. I think I've been a member for more than 15 years, but I have had my surgery, since I was a kid of 15 ( do the math-that's more than 60 years ago). As a teen, with a new ostomy ( for Ulcerative colitis) my parents dragged me off to my first ostomy association meeting. I wasn't happy, but in the long run, it's the best thing that happened to me. I met others, older, and teens like me, adjusting to the changes. A group of us started a Young adult group, and helped each other, and even visited kids who were new to the world of ostomies. But soon I married, and moved out of state, and although made some connections with other NJ ostomates, I became pretty much isolated. Until I discovered MaO. By then, I was having a myriad of other medical issues, and my aging stoma " wasn't doing well". I received a lot of help and support from members! I was pleased that I was also back to supporting others. I met a gal on line (from Papua New Guinea) who was trying to help ostomates in her country. There is a scarcity of supplies in some other countries, and unlike the US, insurance to pay for supplies isn't available. When my son followed his "love" twenty years ago, and moved to Australia I took advantage of an opportunity to help other ostomates. On one of my first visits to Oz, I brought a suitcase full of Ostomy supplies, handed them off to an Ostomy assoc. On the Gold Coast, who then had a friend take them to PNG. They were grateful for the help, and Janet and I still write.. This is the place to be, if you need help, and it also gives you the opportunity to provide help and support to others. Feel free to write, if you'd like to chat, about things ostomy, or life in general. Best REgards to all.. Marsha

Glad you are enjoying your travels. Yeah, I would think a lot of walking that soon after your ostomy would be hard on you. Try to relax and take breaks when you can. Don't forget to hydrate!

An upgrade is the best. I was fortunate on my last trip overseas to fly first class, and it was something else!

Sounds like you have the cruising life all sorted. Live long and prosper!🖖

Flying and emptying the urostomy bag. How did you deal with the long flight and the need to empty your bag?

I wasn't ready for the trip. I needed more physical therapy. I tripped over the saddle of the cabin and dislocated my right thumb. I went to the hospital for X-rays. Now I can't use that hand. That taught me a lesson. I had to dump my bag many times. Not easy with no right thumb.

Greetings TBird,

Viking trips are great. Especially the river cruises. What I liked about them was when I booked the first trip, the consultant told me to save my money and get an inside room. The thought was that they would keep us so busy we would never spend any spare time in the room. I did this and used the money for excursions. We also got upgraded to a patio room when we got there.

I was 6 months post-op when we went on the Rhine River. You're right. There is plenty of walking. It just made more room for the great meals they had. No weight gain at all. I'm glad you are getting out and about. As you see with health issues, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Make the most of each day. Keep us posted on your adventures. You never know, there may be someone reading your stories who gets inspired to make their own.

Best of Health,

SharkFan

I just went to the loo, and fortunately, it was solid.

It was solid and easy to dump, and I was

in the front row near 🚽

I emptied it as soon as I felt it was a little full. I am a bit worried about the bag bursting or being too full, so I do dump it often. For some reason, the odor went away immediately in the tiny toilet.
