Failing Gall Bladder and Liver After Intestinal Surgery

This topic is about the experiences of people who have had their gallbladders removed after undergoing major intestinal surgery or living with an ostomy. The original poster, who had most of their intestines removed 11 years ago, is now dealing with gallbladder and possible liver issues and is seeking advice from others who have been through similar situations.

Here are some shared experiences and advice from others:

1. Many people have had their gallbladders removed either before or after getting an ostomy. They generally describe the procedure as minor, often done laparoscopically, and usually on an outpatient basis.

2. Recovery experiences include:
- Soreness typically lasts from a few days to about a week, with most people needing prescription pain medication for only 2 to 3 days.
- One person mentioned experiencing significant gas pain for about eight days after the surgery, which was worse than the gas pain from previous laparoscopic ostomy surgeries.

3. In terms of symptom relief:
- Most people found that removing the gallbladder relieved their previous abdominal pain, nausea, and issues with abnormal liver enzymes.
- However, one person noted that they still experience intermittent stomach pain, suggesting that gallbladder removal might not resolve all gastrointestinal symptoms.

4. For diagnostics, elevated liver enzymes and an ultrasound confirming gallstones led to a quick surgical referral in one case.
