Ostomy Belt Problems: Clipping and Rolling Issues?

This topic is about dealing with an issue some people face when using an ostomy belt with a Hollister pouching system. The problem is that one side of the belt tends to roll up and dig into the skin, causing discomfort, while the other side stays flat and comfortable. Here are some helpful tips and insights to address this issue:

1. Check the tension of your belt. Make sure it's not too tight, as this can cause the flange to distort. The belt should attach comfortably to the tabs on the flange without pulling too much.

2. Consider the age of your belt. Over time, belts can become more prone to folding and deformation. If your belt is old or has been used for a long time, it might be time to replace it or give it a good wash. For instance, if your belt is around 4 years old, it's definitely time for a new one.

3. Try using two belts or placing your current belt inside a homemade fabric sleeve. This can help keep the belt flat and provide a more stable, double-layered configuration.

4. Think about switching to a wider support belt. Many people recommend a 4-inch-wide belt that fits over the wafer, such as the Nu-Hope 4" Ostomy Support Belt. This type of belt can offer more stability and comfort.

5. Keep in mind the general pros and cons of using belts. While they can provide support and help keep a prolapsed stoma in place, narrow single-strand belts are often more prone to rolling, which can be uncomfortable.
