I had my bladder removed almost 5 months ago. The skin around the stoma and adhesive edges is shiny. It looks like glue. I have tried adhesive wipe remover and the skin seems clean but remains shiny... It looks like a seal that does not come off.

The skin under my wafer looks whiter. I have a retracted stoma. I use Coloplast 1 piece with convexity and a belt to help the stoma protrude.

Could it be because it's always covered it just doesn't get to "breath" like the skin around it?

Hi Kissy,

The area around my stoma is also shiny. It has been since the beginning and I do not use anything on my skin except adhesive remover, soap, and water. It has never posed a problem. Not sure if it is a deterrent to the adhesive or not. My two-piece or one-piece pouches have never really sealed around the stoma. The moldables were worse. I use the Convatec two-piece right now and have ordered the Coloplast two-piece since I really liked their one-piece better. Giving the two-piece a try! Will see if it sticks any better! Would love it to because under the water goes under the flange as does the output causing it all to be changed more frequently. But I guess every 6 days is not bad! I also use Coloplast Y-shaped barrier strips for the extra security!

Shiny skin is happy skin, or at least mine seems to be. I agree with what has already been written. The skin around my stoma seems a bit shiny too but I know it's clean and free of any residue as well. I don't seem to have any issues there and I can usually feel where the pouch has been for a good half an hour after I remove it. I suppose it just has to bounce back from all those days with the flange on.
