Hello, I was wondering how many of you had ostomies because of anal fissures or pelvic floor dysfunction since I have been suffering because of this for years.
Can you share with me how you felt after the ostomy? Did your life get better?
Do you pass mucus? What did you do to fix this mucus problem?
Do you still experience anal pain even after the ostomy?

I have to have shoulder surgery this winter and am really concerned about emptying my ostomy. How to empty and rinse it with only one hand. I really don't want to burden my wife with this task.

I currently have an SPT due to stricture and scar tissue blockage from radiation treatment for prostate cancer. I have to wear adult diapers due to incontinence. I'm considering getting a urostomy so as not to be burdened with perpetual diaper usage. Any thoughts or suggestions to help me make my decision?

I keep getting an indentation in my skin next to my stoma along the edge, making it hurt. I have had my colostomy for 3 years. I have a parastomal hernia too. Has anyone had this happen?

Hi all, I am new to this site. I am wondering if anyone has tried to lose weight by taking slimming pills, as I am thinking about it since I am not mobile, so just cutting down on food is not working very well. I can't walk far or do much in the way of exercise, so I thought I may try pills. But I am not sure if that would be okay with an ileostomy. I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

I (21) had elective proctocolectomy and got my ileostomy 5 days ago because of my UC. I've had a lot of time to mentally prepare, and the benefits of living free of my UC by far outweigh the negatives of having an ostomy, so I, for myself, am pretty happy with the new situation so far. Short details. Bladder cancer diagnosis 2 years ago. BCG treatment worked, but cancer came back. Elective chemo before bladder removal (20 weeks of misery), pulmonary embolism from chemo/cancer, blood thinners, 8 weeks later surgery.

Hi all, does anyone else on here have problems with their iron and B12 levels? I have an ileostomy, and my recent blood test shows this deficiency.

Hey all. I have had an ileostomy in place for 4 years now. I am as active as I was before and pretty much eat what I did before, and I know some things I eat are not supposed to be consumed by ostomates: pickles, nuts, corn, popcorn, etc. I have never had a blockage as a result of consuming these foods, but I chew a lot. How would I know if I get a blockage? What are the signs?
