Hello, I have stage 4 colon cancer since 6/24 and have to deal with an ileostomy and a stoma named George. He is very active, and I do have leakage sometimes at night. I am thinking about the skin barriers. Anyone have problems like this and suggestions?
Laugh at my experience and expense if it's funny to you. This is meant to be self-deprecating and a bit of a cathartic post. Maybe there's a tip in here somewhere for anyone who has acquired a stoma recently.
My first bag was put on while I was still in surgery. My second bag change happened with the wound care nurse in the hospital the day before I was discharged. The third was with my wife i ...
I took some time to read up on some of y'all's posts on the pros and cons (more pros than cons) of having a stealth belt and also did some research about it, comparing it to others that are out there in the market. So after some debates with the three of me (me, myself, and I), I took the leap and just ordered one! I'm hoping that what I've read on it from those who swear by it, I too will be ...
I had my colonoscopy on Thursday, and the doctor said I am on track for my 6-month reversal, which is in January. She was very happy with my general surgeon who did the emergency surgery and said that he left her plenty to work with.
I'm very excited about the opportunity to return to a “normal” life. But I have so many emotions. I'm nervous. I'm scared. I'm excited. And I also feel bad th ...

I first started on here in October talking about my stoma being moved from the right to the left and having numerous leaks and bag changes. I've said it was so short (almost flat) I couldn't see where to place the bag. Well, the last three bag changes went without a change for 7 days! Back to my old schedule when it was on the right side. It did come up ever so slightly, so I just practiced fo ...
If you go online to AliExpress and type ostomy into the search bar, you will find huge amounts of ostomy products from bags, wipes barrier rigs, belts, sprays the whole range. I always buy non-woven tape from them and I only pay about $7 instead of the $30-$40 at the pharmacy (I have lots of allergies and their tape is good). I've also used their flange extenders. I have not used any other ...
There are so many questions about ostomies.
And what we must wear “belly side.”
They are protrusions, but they're not illusions
that some hate and some wear with pride.
We turn to this site to help with our plight,
in search of the remedies

Some gain peace of mind, and many may find

Morning all, hope you are all well. Just a quick update. I didn't post anything here for quite a while. So I had my full panproctocolectomy on the 17th of July this year due to ulcerative colitis. My recovery went well, 5 weeks later I was back to driving, 6 weeks later I am pretty much where my old self was, and now my bottom wound is almost completely healed. Results of the removed intestine ...
I recently discovered that Cortizone 10 comes in a spray, and it is a game changer for me. I have sensitivity to adhesives, so my appliances were making me miserable with rashes, blisters, and irritation. I had heard of other ostomy patients using Flonase, but that didn't seem right to me. When I saw the Cortizone 10 spray, I had to try it. I sprayed it on, let it dry, then sprayed the barrier ...
Hubz had a regular checkup with the oncologist on Friday (his numbers are improving), and as they were asking how he's feeling since surgery, they became curious about how he's doing so well with his ostomy, both physically and mentally. He credited doing research online, trying different things, and especially the support from this group. They were asking because they see so many patients str ...
