Been trying to get into the habit of having seafood at least twice a week. Let me tell you something, there's nothing like the smell of the ocean... at low tide when emptying your pouch! 😄

I've never been a huge fan of seafood but do know the resultant sea stench that arises (almost instantaneously with an ileo)! 👃🥴

If I do partake (sometimes those fisherman's baskets at the pub are too hard to resist!) I make sure it's the evening before change day so I don't have to spend several days with stinky britches. 🤭

MeetAnOstoMate website turned out to be a lifesaver for me. I say this because, for me, this ostomy journey was a devastating event both physically and mentally.
Here, I found folks who understood my feelings even better than my family or friends could. Only a fellow ostomate can understand how you really feel.

Information sharing is key, as well as support and understanding, to ultimately bring more harmony into our ostomy life journey. I found here, virtually no ostomy questions that are not touched upon. Questions which some might feel, may be too trivial to contact a doctor about or even too shy or embarrassed to ask their own doctor about. They are all addressed here.

For me, anonymity was very helpful in seeking answers to each phase of this life changing medical and mental event. Sharing initial trauma feelings, ongoing support and finally acceptance was what I found with my membership here. I am not sure what my mental and physical attitude would be today without having found this site.

Additional benefits included: finding products and ideas to help with daily maintenance, innovative ideas and as a bonus - some great humor.
After all “laughter IS the best medicine”.

I have been a member for 3 years, an ostomate for 4 years - yes, I certainly wish I would have found it immediately after surgery but so very thankful I finally found it when I did as I truly believe it turned my troubled depression and situation into a more positive attitude and acceptance.

Sincerely,
An Ileostomate nicknamed Justbreathe 🫶🏼

I've never seen an ocean/beach, and my seafood has been limited to a bite of lobster, and I tried a shrimp once. 🤷‍♂️ I live in the middle of cow country; what do you expect? 😁

I tend to stay away from seafood and fish not just because of the resulting odors. Mostly because getting fresh fish/seafood in the arid middle of a continent is a bit difficult. And then there is the fact that I get enough micro-plastics in my system from other sources. The latter is why I also eschew sea salt. Even my wife, who grew up on the East China Sea, no longer eats much seafood. But, she just can't stay away from shrimp. :-)

I like seafood too much to stay away from it. I just believe in that old biblical saying.

Let us spray, let us spray!

Probably not biblical, but I do believe in the power of spray!

I couldn't live without seafood.  It's my main source of protein.  I've never noticed any difference in the smell of my output when eating seafood versus some other protein, ie, chicken, turkey, duck or dairy (I don't eat red meat).  It all stinks.

Never eat "fresh" seafood when more than a day's drive from the ocean—a good rule to stay healthy by! I find that salmon does not give it that nasty stink; battered cod & chips is the worst stink!! Don't care, I eat it all. I've had food poisoning at least 5 times from seafood, shrimp, cockles, mussels, and oysters twice!!! Does not deter me. I now know the signs before I eat it. When I've picked the shellfish myself, I never get sick. Raw oysters are the best!! I've never lived more than an hour from the open sea; the salty seaweed smell and taste is in my bones. A half-hour watching a golden ocean sunset is better than six months of therapy, good for body and soul.

When I was working, our headquarters were first in San Jose, California and then in Santa Clara, California. Since one of the teams I managed was in California, I usually spent one week a month there. As much as I disliked being in the madness of Silicon Valley, there were were the perks and one was fresh seafood. And with the majority of my team being Vietnamese, they knew all the best places. A couple of them were pretty rowdy. :-)

I love seafood, and will not stop eating it.  Spray works.

I'm with you Eamon.  I've lived near the ocean all my life.  Grew up harvesting our own clams and oysters off the beach, crab and prawns from our traps and salmon and cod that my dad and brother caught.  I've actually never had food poisoning, maybe just lucky.  We do get warnings when there is a contamination happening, ie, red tides, etc.  It's always bugged me when people say that fish and seafood is stinky.  If it stinks, it's gone off and shouldn't be eaten.  Fresh fish and seafood does not stink!

Fresh is the key - and when away from the Quay - beware

Good for the taste buds and the soul

....

But also most things in moderation too, so I am an omnivore - who loves her fresh saltwater fish and salmon that has actually been to the ocean and back upriver to spawn!

Frozen seafood is probably fresher than fresh sounds daft.

I buy lots of fruits and vegetables.

I eat seafood 3-4 times a week. The pouch smells like chum! M-9 deodorant helps. Eating garlic/onion covers it up. A trade-off.
