Need advice on clothing to conceal ostomy bag?

Choosing the right clothing and support garments to discreetly conceal a filling ostomy bag can be a bit of a puzzle. Many people find themselves overwhelmed by the variety of options like Yummie Tummie tanks and Spanx shapewear. The challenge often lies in finding something that not only hides the bag but also feels comfortable, especially since the pouch can bulge at the bottom as it fills. Here are some practical tips and insights to help you navigate this:

1. Commercial wraps and belts:
- OstomySecrets "Classic Wrap" is a great option for smoothing and flattening the pouch. It comes in black, white, and tan, is affordable, and washes well.
- The Phoenix Ostomy Belt offers flesh-tone support with built-in pouch control. It's comfortable but might show under tight clothing.
- PouchWear "Sleek" belt is seamless, covers the entire bag, muffles gas, and is suitable for swimming and all-day wear.

2. Shapewear and camisoles:
- Long Spanx tanks or light-control camisoles, especially cotton-stretch versions, help keep the bag flat without too much compression.
- Camisoles with built-in bras provide light support and reduce the need for extra layers.
- Be cautious with very tight bands as they can trap gas or cause discomfort.

3. Jeans and trousers:
- Opt for low- or mid-rise, thin soft-denim jeans with waistbands that don't press on the flange. Always test them by sitting and bending in the fitting room.
- Consider buying trousers or jeans one size larger for a tailored look that hides the pouch bulge.
- Maternity pants with a stretchy front panel can support the bag as it expands and look professional when paired with a blazer.

4. Underwear and layering tricks:
- High-waisted panties over a tucked-in pouch help hold it close to the body.
- Bikini panties with low-rise jeans can work if the pouch is worn outside the waistband and covered by an ostomy bag cover.
- Leggings or slim pants paired with a long vest or tee and a flowing shirt or loose belt can disguise any outline.
- Patterned skirts or long summer dresses are also effective at hiding fullness, as patterns distract the eye.

5. DIY solutions:
- A hand-sewn support using a handkerchief pouch stitched to an elastic waistband can be adjusted as the bag fills and worn under an untucked long shirt.
- Homemade elastic bands using "expandex" fabric can mimic the OstomySecrets wrap at a lower cost.

6. General comfort tips:
- Having two sizes of underpants can prevent tightness as the pouch fills.
- Monitoring food and drink intake before going out can help limit rapid filling.
- Always prioritize comfort; if a garment causes gas buildup or pain, switch to looser styles.

These suggestions aim to help you find the right balance between style, discretion, and comfort.
