I have had a heck of a time with pouches. I have tried several different companies' products and am totally disgusted that none of these products are reliable. I need to shave around my stoma but not sure what to use? I read an electric razor and the one I got I tested it on the opposite side of my stomach and it's pulled my hair .. my stoma nurse had said I could use a regular razor but I am not comfortable with that and I am prone to razor burn and have sensitive skin... Ok, I am having a heck of a time here.. How do you guys out there wear jeans or slacks with a belt and your shirt tucked in? I have fought this long enough... I gotta know.. Hey all, I know ileostomy poop smells bad normally and can be worse depending on what you eat, but why does it seem to smell worse after you wake up from a sleep? Is it the gas? I live in apartments and I'm so self-conscious that the neighbors can smell it.

I've been given mixed information as far as rinsing out my ileostomy bag between changes. Yay or nay?
I had a lot of issues with leaking barriers early on, and one of the suggestions was to not rinse inside the bag. But it seems like if the barrier holds up with liquid output, water should be fine?

No wonder people have such misinformed and disrespectful attitudes towards people with ostomies, and worsened by ostomates who use the term, as well.
I find the use of the word "bag" to describe an ostomy pouch demeaning and disrespectful.
To me, it's my pouch, part of the appliance I wear, a result of life-saving surgery from a debilitating and killer illness, and deserving of more respect.

It seems like we know everything there is to know about our stomas, the appliance and all that needs to be done and when. Yet it wasn't that long ago that we didn't know the difference, or if there was one, between barriers, barrier rings, barrier film or spray, wafer, base plate, etc. I mention this because there may be questions asked by newer folks and we (or I) need to slow down before thr ...

I am asking this question because of the recent phenomenon of being told I am using too many bags by my GP! I suspect it's because of the costs and related to the recent cutbacks due to the austerity thing! See other posts on this site on the subject of people not getting their bags on time.

Help - What do you do when your partner suggests you find something to cover up that ugly thing on your stomach in intimate moments?

So how long after y'all got your ileostomy, did you decide to take a naked shower? Lol, by that I mean, without the device on. I am just about 4 weeks post-surgery, and I still feel like it would be very uncomfortable in the shower naked.

I have an issue with emptying my pouch at home. I have to stand and straddle the toilet bowl to empty my pouch. This is not doing my back any good.
When I am out in a public bathroom, I can sit far enough back on the toilet seat that I can empty while sitting down. I can't do that at home as the toilet tank gets in the way.
